Auto-Fictional Games in Manuel Vilas Fiction

Abstract

Manuel Vila’s work, which is a vivid and creative contemporary example of fiction, introduces us with a real laboratory allowing us to study auto-fictional literature. Moreover, a myriad of auto-fictional examples seal undeniably his work. Villa’s humoristic philosophy uses auto-fiction as a basis for a literary game. We will rely on the different theories gathered by Ana Casas in La autoficción. Reflexiones teóricas (2012), we will insist on some concrete cases coming from his fictional work (España, Magia, Aire Nuestro, Los Inmortales y El luminoso regalo). Beginning with those novels, we will try to underline the narrative effects coming from the auto-fiction which is based upon two principal plans, the fictional pact and the reading pact established with the reader. Finally, we will talk about a possible reading key (egodic literature, Vicente Luis Mora) in Vila’s work, allowing us to go in depth into his idiosyncrasy (lyrical pact according to A. Rodriguez). Understanding the attention for this stylistic feature is another way to appreciate the work of the aragonese author.
