Estudios Bizantinos adheres to the principles of ethics and good practices for scientific research of the University of Alcalá, referring to the Code of the Publication Service, the  Code of ethics of good practices in research and the general Code of ethics of the University of Alcalá. For the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement of the journal in particular see this page

Commitment of the editorial director and the editorial board

Both parties undertake not to base their decisions on whether or not to publish articles received on factors such as gender, sexual, religious or political orientation, ethnicity, geographic origin or citizenship of the authors. Apart from this, management and committee commit to:

·Update the guidelines on the responsibilities of the authors and the characteristics of the papers submitted to the journal, as well as the evaluation and assignment criteria used to select the articles and the evaluation scales that the external evaluators must apply in turn.

·Guarantee the confidentiality of the evaluation process: this includes the anonymity of the evaluators and authors, the content that is evaluated, the report issued by the evaluators and any other communication made by the committees (editorial, advisory and scientific). Likewise, confidentiality will be maintained in the event of possible clarifications, claims or complaints that an author wishes to send to the journal's committees or to the evaluators of the article.

·Reach an agreement in cases of conflicts in which the manuscript, after receiving a positive and a negative report (or vice versa), will require an anonymous academic arbitration report from a third reviewer.

·Be especially strict about plagiarism: texts identified as plagiarized will be discarded and will not be published. The journal will act ex officio as quickly as possible.

Commitment of authors

·They are responsible for the content of their submission.

·They undertake to inform the editors of the journal in case they detect a relevant error in one of their published articles, so that the appropriate corrections can be made.

·They guarantee that the article and associated materials are original and do not infringe the copyrights of third parties. In the case of co-authorship, they must justify that there is consent from all authors concerned for the final version of the article to be published in a UAH journal.

Commitment of the evaluators/reviewers

·They undertake to make an objective, informed, critical, constructive and impartial review of the article. Acceptance or rejection is based solely on the relevance of the work, its originality, scientific interest and compliance with the style and content standards indicated in the editorial criteria.

·Comply with the established deadlines (if this is not possible, they should communicate this sufficiently in advance to the journal's management).

·Undertake not to share, disseminate or use, under any circumstances, the information of the articles submitted for review without the corresponding permission of the editor and/or authors.

·They declare a possible conflict of interest, whether of a labor, personal or ideological nature, which could undermine the impartiality of the review.
