Abstract

In this article I propose a critical review of the idea of sound as a relational force raised by Brandon LaBelle in Background Noise: Perspectives on Sound Art (2006). Based on an analysis of the criticisms that Nicolas Bourriaud's original concept of relational aesthetics has received in the field of contemporary art, I propose to reflect on the limits of this term in its application to artistic practices devoted to sound.
