Abstract

In the Mexican context marked by the proliferation of murdered people, with 30523 victims at the end of 2023, and the excessive increase of forced disappearances of people, which from the 1960s to the end of 2023 totaled 110985; it is necessary to reflect on the cultural metaphors that can help to identify the new figures of enunciation in the request for justice in that country. Thus, in this paper I will explore both the figure of the Haitian zombie and the emergence of the figure of Antigone as two cultural archetypes that embody political resignifications around loss and mourning. I have called these resignifications and affective agencements Post-Mortem Politics and they refer to the affective and political practices to dignify the victims of lethal violence and forced disappearance, which are agreed upon by the survivors. I will analyze how these practices are linked to the spatiality of contemporary necropolis (understood not only as cemeteries but also as the material basis of an endless number of despoilments that can be represented through the figure of the zombie that emerges from clandestine graves). Thus, starting from the idea of cultural metaphors, I will make a cross reading between what is here called Post-Mortem Politics and the politicization of affections both in the figure of the zombie and the character of Antígona González, protagonist of the experimental book of the same name by the Mexican writer Sara Uribe.
